 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love being outside and taking in sights and nature.  Today Kev and I went on a hike to Flat Iron.  Flat Iron is the top of the Superstition Mountains.  We did this hike probably 20 years ago and I have been wanting to do it again for years.  But this year I felt I was ready to do it with all the hiking I’ve been doing plus I lost some weight so I thought I’d be able to cause I knew it was a tough hike.

Let me tell you tough may not even be the right word.  It was hard, it really was.  In fact, I thought it was harder then hiking the Grand Canyon.  It’s a hike that has a 3600 ft incline.  It’s a hike that has lots of rocks.  And I mean a lot.  It’s a hike that you actually do a lot of rock climbing. And I mean a lot.  It’s also a hike that for both Kev and I are now saying, we did it and won’t do it again.

We both said we didn’t remember it being so hard from all those years ago.  We both remembered doing some rock climbing but thought it was for maybe the last few minutes til you got to the top.  It was way more then that. More like 3/4 of the hike was rock climbing. But the whole trail is really all rocky.  It actually got to the point where I wasn’t even enjoying it.  Kev kept saying, just go ahead I’ll wait here for you cause I know you want to go to the top.  And I really did want to go to the top so that I could say I did it as well as to know if I actually could or not.  He was struggling cause his knee has been nothing him really bad.  So I did go ahead of him and ugh that was annoying too.  There really isn’t a “marked” trail cause it’s all rocks so you just keep climbing.  At one point I was climbing and climbing and just got to a point where I stood there saying I have no idea where I am or where to go and I actually said a little prayer asking God to help me and just keep me safe cause I was getting a little freaked out.  And out of the blue this girl yells at me from way over on another part of the mountain and says “hey.....the trail’s over here.” I couldn’t believe it cause I honestly didn’t know where to go. I was just gonna sit there and see if Kev came the same way and could find me, he was about 30-40 minutes behind me.  So this girl kind of guided me to where she was and got me back on track to keep going.  I made it to the top.  Honestly I don’t know how, the end part to the top was major rock climbing but I made it.  I sat up there for a while and ate a snack and then wondered if Kev was gonna come or if he just decided to hell with it and was just gonna wait for me to come down.  I walked back over to where I came up the trail and all of a sudden I see him!! I was so happy.

Now we were up there and wondered what the hell did we just do?  Yeah, we made it but now we had to get down.  Let me tell you, going down was even harder.  And even scarier.  Plus it hurt Kev’s knee even more, and at this point it was swollen huge.  I sat on my butt and just slid here and there to try and go down.  There really was no other way to do it.  Again, it was hard lol  Kev was hurting bad and had to keep sitting down, which I was fine with cause I was stressing out so bad about falling.

Once we got down to a point where the rock climbing wasn’t as bad I went ahead again and wanted to get down before Kev so that I could get to the car and try to bring it closer to a different part of the trail so he wouldn’t have to walk so far to the parking lot.  I may have saved him a 1/2 mile but every little bit helped by this point.

So we hiked Flat Iron.  Been there done that.  It’s pretty, don’t get me wrong.  And you can see some awesome views but we definitely won’t be doing that hike again.

This is the start of the hike and that’s the mountain we were heading for.

Kev wondering what he got himself into.

Here’s some of the rock climbing.  Kev was in front of me here, but not for long.
This area is called Siphon Draw.  Once you get here then now all you do is keep climbing.

The picture above is what I had just climbed and then I got a picture of Kev coming up.
When I first got to the top, I sat and had a snack and took a couple pictures while I waited for Kev.
There he is....now to climb through this mess of rocks.
Those are forced smiles lol
Haha....he just wants it to be over

I finished taking pictures at this point, I just wanted to be done.  Definitely a hike with a good story.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love this picture of this list of ways to fast and also the picture of Do You Pray. Today is the first day of Lent. The list focuses on changing behaviors,  and Lent is a time to pray, focus, reflect and work on that.  I know I need reminders from time to time and try my best to be a person who prays.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

The picture says it all.  I love country music.  I very rarely listen to anything else.  My longest playlist is my country one and my favorite channel on Pandora is Today’s Country Radio.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I do love my desserts.  And this is one of my favorite ones.  Kev and I will get a Peanut Butter Cup pie from Village Inn for special occasions and since yesterday was Valentine’s Day we got one.  I’ve been eating off plan for a few days now and this was included in that.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love Oregano’s.  It’s my favorite place to eat.  We had it for my birthday and then since it’s Valentine’s Day we got it for dinner again.

Kev and I spent the day together before we had our yummy dinner.  We took our bikes over to the Scottsdale bike path and rode for quite a while, until Kev lost his brakes.  So when we were done riding we took our bikes to the bike shop and left them for tune-ups and Kev got some new brakes.  Then we went down to San Tan Mountain and did some hiking. It was a fun day with a yummy dinner and one off our favorite desserts, a peanut butter pie as a love treat.

Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love this porcelain eagle statue I have on my tv stand.  It’s not that I love eagles, but daddy did and you can’t help but think of him anytime you see anything that is eagle related. Plus this was one of his eagle pieces.

Also, I love this little story I read from a guy I follow on Instagram.

If you know how handy Kev is then you can appreciate these pictures.  Don’t you just love his tool box?  It’s an old tackle box lol   I just love how the kids all got into it and thought they were using tools too.  Kev took it out to fix one of the bikes we had, so then he had to give all the kids a turn on it.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love one of my new go to meals since I’ve been doing Whole30.   It’s meatballs in sauce with some sautéed zucchini.  I’ve bought meatballs from a few different restaurants, they have all been good,  and then I add the zucchini.  It’s so delicious and filling and I get a good amount of veggies cause I add a whole zucchini to the meatballs.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I just love how cute Annabelle looks in her school uniform for her first day of school.  Can you believe she’s already in Kindergarten?  Plus she got moved up in her dance class too.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love Carrot Cake, and one of the best ones I’ve had is from Kneaders. (my favorite is Lloyd’ Carrot Cake by Janet’s house in the Bronx)  But I got a free dessert coupon for my birthday from Kneaders so I finally went and used it.  I could pick anything but picked my favorite.  They make a single serve size and one of the reasons I really like it is that they put lots of frosting on it.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love to play cards.  All kinds of card games. Some I like better then others, but I just like to play.  And I especially love playing black jack in Vegas.  (it’s been so long, I think I’m due for a black jack outing).  This card game is a new one I learned before Christmas from my friend Lyn, and I found it at Target so bought my own.

I love Peanut Butter M&M’s.  Enough said.  LOL

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love my birthday present.  A few years ago Kev and I had looked at bows at Bass Pro Shop for me.  I thought it would be cool to get one and go shoot with Kev or go to the range at Ussery and shoot at targets. So for my birthday Kev found a good buy on Offer Up for one and got it for me.  Now I need to learn how to shoot it.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love to hike.  I love being out on a trail, taking in the fresh air and just going.  There are definitely some trails I like better then others but still I’m up for trying new ones.  Since I have been doing this years hiking challenge I’ve been doing a lot of hiking and accumulating a lot of miles.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love macadamia nuts.  When I’m eating Whole30 there aren’t too many things that I eat for snacks, but nuts are one of them.  And macadamia nuts are ones that I really feel are a treat.  At $19.99 a bag they should be.  lol

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love flowers.  Funny, I don’t have any in my yard but I love getting bouquets.  Today I got a couple of bouquets for my birthday.  I woke up and came out to the kitchen and Kev had some already in a vase on the counter and table.  Then I got a delivery from the florist and they were from Paul, Sarah & Belle.  I’m going to try to remember to buy them more or drop some hints to Kev to buy them more often cause I love having them on display.

Oh and one more thing......

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I love the smoothies I make.  I know I mentioned how great my new blender makes smoothies but I just love how good they are.  I started making them when I was doing the 75Hard so that I could add some more protein to my day.  I add the Vital Collagen Proteins.  I picked that brand because it is Whole30 compliant.  I also use almond milk and coconut water, also because they are compliant.  Then I add different fruit and spinach.  So delicious and filling.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

Today is the first day of a new month, already.  February is the shortest month of the year.  February is the month of my birthday.  Plus, February is known as the month of love.  I decided for my pic of the day this month, they will all be of things that I love.  First I’ll start with Kev.  My life is much better with him in it and I love him for that.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I had a friend I met through playing Pickleball, Vicki.  Vicki and her partner Sue were a couple of players that Yvonne and I would end up seeing and playing against in tournaments.  We became friends and would even play together outside of tournaments as well.  Vicki found out she had cancer a few years ago and ended up dying this past year.  Sue took it upon herself to do a fundraiser on FB to get donations to have a bench placed at the Pickleball courts in Apache Junction where she played a lot.  Today, the bench was dedicated and along with Vicki’s husband, son and grandson, a lot of her friends showed up to show their support.  It was such a great tribute for such a wonderful lady that died way too soon, so sad.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I actually stole this pic from Alicia’s Snapchat but had to use it.  The kids use to tie towels around their necks and run around like super heroes, so for Christmas we bought them a pack of capes and masks so now they’re officially super heroes.  This is a pic of Vincent and Lainey on their climbing gym.  Haha, love the caption, Let’s do this!!!

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

With all the rain we’ve been getting it’s also been snowing up in the mountains.  This is a view of four peaks from the hiking trail I hiked today.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

It has been raining the last couple days but I’ve been able to get out and walk in between bursts.  Today, I was over at Alicia’s so when I left her house I went and did a trail not far from her house.  It’s part of the Maricopa Trail.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

Kev and I came up with bags of clothes after we cleaned out the closet. Still going to work on some cabinets and drawers so hopefully we’ll  have more bags to go to Goodwill.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

Whenever I cook bacon I usually cook 2-3 packs so that we have it in the fridge and all you have to do is zap it in the microwave to warm it up.  Very convenient!! So today, since I was cooking bacon I decided to make myself some snacks. (Kev won’t eat them) I cut dates, take the pit out, put diced pecans inside, wrap it in bacon and then fry it in the pan.    OMG so delicious.

 Today’s Pic of the Day:

I’ve been trying for a week or so to reach my 300 miles for my hiking challenge.  I decided today I was going to get there.  I needed 12.5 miles to reach it, so I got up and went and did 6 miles.  I came home and then played Pickleball for 2 hours, went home and had some lunch, then went back and hiked 7 miles.  I made it!!!! I’ve hiked 300 miles in the 100 miles in 100 days hiking challenge, and today is only day 83!!!

As of January 2009, I no longer have a job. It's not that I lost it, but after 26 1/2 years of working at the Post Office, I retired. According to everyone I know, I don't do anything all day, so I decided to start a blog. Now I can blog about what I don't do all day. I am married to Kevin, who is the most awesome husband I could ever have. It's because of him, that I do not go to work any more. I love that and I love him for that. Between the 2 of us we have 4 children. Hunter 31, Heather 29, Paul 28 and Alicia 26.
