November 27, 2010 Knobby & Flo's 60th Wedding Anniversary Party

Knobby & Flo are my friend Shelly, Collette & Terese's parents whom I have known for years. I played ball with all three of the sisters and at one time Knobby was our coach. Knobby was also the one that kept on me about taking the post office test back in 1982, when he also worked there as a carrier. It is because of him that I did take the test and ended up working there.

They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary first at 4:00 Mass at St. Clement's in Sun City and then had a party right after in the church hall. This is Mom's actual wedding dress and I loved how they had it out on display, along with a suit for Dad and a bottle of his favorite blackberry brandy!!

Knobby reminds me so much of Daddy. He's so cute and social and funny, a great guy just like him. You can't help but love him and want to be around him!!

November 26, 2010 Black Friday

I have never been out shopping on Black Friday, usually because I am at work or better yet, sleeping!! This year Alicia said she was going out and was going to buy a TV so I told her I would go with her. AMAZING!! People standing in line after line to get some great deals. I know for some it's a tradition and can be lots of fun, but for me I'm not really sure how I feel about it.

Our morning was pretty fun I have to admit. We stood in line at Target and watched person after person come out with a TV and Alicia was freaking that she wasn't going to get one. And of course she was right, these people had been in line since the night before!!

We made it in the store just to get in another line in the electronics department, where she was told that the TV she was looking for was over in the clothing department and they were out. Oh well, nice try. We grabbed a few other things, and once again got in another line to pay.

As we waited in line this girl came walking down the aisle dragging a TV and I heard her say to some people behind us that she was putting it back. I told Alicia "go follow that girl she's putting her TV back." She jumped out of line and went in search of her but didn't know which way she went. Oh well, nice try again. So I am in line with our few random products and up comes Alicia to get back in line.....dragging her new 32" TV. The girl had just left it where she had found it, in the clothing department, go figure, and Alicia had found it just sitting there. She looked around, no one was claiming it, it was now hers!!!! Success on Black Friday.

November 25, 2010 Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was over at Kristien's house this year. We had a small group but still managed to get in alot of food. There was even a few rounds of Apples to Apples.

Colleen was in town for the holiday so she needed a group hug from her aunts & mother.

November 25, 2010 Turkey Trot

Thanksgiving morning I got picked up to go do a 10k. My friend Meredith had registered to run in it, but she had pulled her hamstring and was just going to walk. So since I don't run, but can walk I told her I would do it with her. It's called the Turkey Trot, hence the guy in the turkey costume.

We finished the walk in 1 hour 36 mins which I thought was pretty good. I know the sign says 1:38, but we had to wait for someone to take our picture!! So not only did we walk the 10k but we parked about a mile away so we had to walk an extra 2 miles as well. Great start to a day and especially one that had all kinds of food involved.

November 21, 2010 Day Three of the 3 Day

Once again, the weather forecast was for more rain for Day 3. Because we trashed our rain ponchos the day before Paul went out and bought us new rain suits. We got ready for the walk and put our suits on right away. Janet & I were the only ones with rain gear on. As you can see in the pictures the sun was out. It was the only time we saw the sun but we were prepared for rain. We left them on and walked about 2 miles, still no rain. Let me tell you how HOT rain suits are. We ended up taking them off because we were sweating so bad.

The rain didn't stay away so we did need the rain suits right around mile 4. And then we wore them pretty much the rest of the day. Occassionally, the jacket needed to be unzipped or even taken off, cause like I said they are hot!!!

Couldn't believe that my new rain gear didn't even make it through the whole day.

We made it!!! We finished the 3 Day at Petco Park, got our new t-shirts and took our Day 3 picture.

November 20, 2010 Day Two of the 3 Day

I know I mentioned how the weather is usually so great for the 3 Day, but not this year. We were sitting in the main tent eating breakfast and Jan & I decided to put our rain ponchos on right away so that we wouldn't have to do it later. It was raining from the minute we came out of the tent and rained the entire day. I think we had maybe an hour break with no rain. Still a great day for a walk!!

It was a wonderful surprise to find out that the 3 Day had brought in all kinds of buses for us to eat lunch in. They wanted to make sure we had somewhere warm and dry to sit and relax while we ate our lunches.

We had these ponchos, but with the wind and rain happening all day they ripped and wouldn't stay on so we did everything we could to keep them all together.

November 19, 2010 Day One of the 3 Day

Day one of the 3 Day started at Del Mar Fairgrounds. The whole walk in San Diego is just awesome. So many great views and usually perfect weather (more on that on Day two & three). It was a nice overcast day so you couldn't beat it, not too hot, not too cold, just a great day for a walk. We arrived right on time for the opening ceremonies walk through with tons of cheering people and the beginning of the route.

All along the route there are people cheering you on and some are even dressed up. Plus there are people that just continue to drive all through the route honking and yelling. It is so awesome. La Jolla actually decorates all down the street with signs and balloons, it is all so welcoming and supportive.

At Lunch we like to sit and take our shoes and socks off and relax for a while. We found a bench right on the boardwalk over looking the ocean. Great view, nice needed sit down time and then we put on fresh socks and get back to it.

Jan and I got seperated for a little while and we caught up at the next pit stop. I didn't know it but she was really hurting. She wasn't feeling good, and she was struggling a little with the whole walk. But being the trooper she is, she rallied and we kept going and made it to the end of Day One.

November 9, 2010 Teacher's Helper

I opened the door and the teacher said "Hi Mom" heads turned and a few kids said that's your mom? Then she told the class this is my mom say hello to Mrs Gonzales. And all together the kids said Hi Mrs Gonzales. So cute!!

I had told Alicia that I would come volunteer in her class, and to just let me know what I needed to do and when she wanted me to come. So she was at the house and said she had some work for me and would I come help her. I sat in the back of the room watching my baby up in the front of the room teaching!!!! I couldn't help but feel so proud. I also found myself doing everything she said. Sit up in your chair, turn around, eyes up front, pencils down and on and on. Plus there was Henry that got his name yelled out several times while I was there. All of a sudden Alicia would just say "Henry." Turns out Henry was the one that I could hear singing. He just bursts out in song whenever he gets a whim. She said this goes on all day, he doesn't even know he is doing it. "Henry"

I did have a few kids talk to me. One boy said, don't you think she should be married by now? I told him no not yet. Then a little girl came up and asked me if I was really Alicia's mom and I said yes, and she said I like your hair. Another little boy wanted to know why I didn't bring Leo (the stuffed lion we have, Alicia had shown them pictures). I told him it was too heavy and he wanted to know why I didn't bring my husband and when I told him he was at work he wanted to know what he did. The funny thing is, I found myself answering all his questions!!!

I stayed til lunch time, and sat and had lunch with Alicia and the other 4th grade teachers. Later in the day she told me the kids wanted to know when I was coming back and they just really didn't understand how I could be her mom, being white and all. What a fun morning and I just loved the teacher, she was awesome!!

November 8, 2010 Crown King

It was Kev's day off and we decided to spend the day out on a quad ride. Kev wanted to try a new trail so we went out behind Lake Pleasant and set out to ride all the way to Crown King. It was a long tough ride. There were some parts of the trail that were very rough and rocky. After about 2 hours of riding and it seemed like the trail was getting worse as we went Kev decided he had had enough. We figured we still had about 10 more miles to go. Nice day for a ride, but a little too rough of a trail for me.

After we had been riding on the same road for miles we came upon this rock, which was the marker to turn for the road to Crown King.

We had been riding for quite a while so Kev wanted to make sure we were going the right way and also to check how much further.

There were a few parts where we came across just some awesome color changing trees. First we were riding all through cactus and then beautiful trees.

There was one spot where Kev told me he thought he should ride my quad down the hill. It was pretty rough and very uneven. Of course once he was down I told him I could have done that, afterall I had to ride up it!!

So yeah.....Crown King still never been there!!!

On the way back to the truck we came across this couple walking. Their jeep had broken down and they were walking back to their truck. We gave them a ride on the quads and when we got to their truck they realized how far they would have had to walk, I am guessing by the time we picked them up they had already walked about 5 miles and they had probably another 15 to go!!! Our good deed for the day :)

November 6, 2010 Cancer Walk

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk was on Saturday morning. Kim and I and a couple of other girls from PartyLite signed up to take part. It was a nice walk that started at Tempe Beach Park. We had been walking for a while and reached about 1 1/2 miles when Kim says to me how long is this walk? She thought it was a nice little 1 mile walk and didn't know why it was taking us so long to walk 1 mile. It was a 3 mile walk!!! Too funny, but great day for a walk and of course it was for a great cause.
As of January 2009, I no longer have a job. It's not that I lost it, but after 26 1/2 years of working at the Post Office, I retired. According to everyone I know, I don't do anything all day, so I decided to start a blog. Now I can blog about what I don't do all day. I am married to Kevin, who is the most awesome husband I could ever have. It's because of him, that I do not go to work any more. I love that and I love him for that. Between the 2 of us we have 4 children. Hunter 31, Heather 29, Paul 28 and Alicia 26.
