September 22, 2012 Sloshball

Alicia decided that another activity she was going to do for her birthday weekend was play Sloshball.  What's sloshball?  Well it's kick ball with a keg, so you can take it from there.  I was the referee since I don't like beer I didn't want to play cause drinking is a big part of the game.  She had a great turnout and the whole afternoon was a ton of fun and a money maker.  Her roommate, Gini,  bought the keg and then they made jello shots and everyone that came and gave donations.   She made $252 to put towards her 3Day account.

Selling Salsa at Kindercare

The Kindercare that Alicia occasionally works at was having an open house.  She got permission to set up a table and sell salsa to make money for the 3 Day.  I worked on making the salsa on Friday and then went with her to Kindercare on Saturday.  They had a great turnout and she made about $110 between selling jars of salsa and also selling a handful of raffle tickets for a basket with chips, salsa and a candle in it.
This was our table all set up.
We had out some chips and salsa so people could taste it....great idea cause once they try it they buy it.
Megan, a friend of Alicia's, was a big promoter of getting people to come by and try it.
They had a few other vendors there and one of them was a face painter.  Before everyone got there I asked her if she could paint a pink ribbon on my face.  She did a great job don't you think?  Some of the kids faces she painted were amazing.

September 21, 2012 Brush Bar

One of the activities that Alicia planned for her birthday was going to the Brush Bar.  It is a super fun place that has a featured painting of the day.  You go and they give you step by step instructions on how to paint it.  It's called a bar cause they do serve alcohol.  So you pay your fee, you get one free drink and then the class to do your painting.  I loved it.  I thought it was so fun, and would definitely go back again.

This was the featured painting.

These are our versions of the featured painting.
Alicia's roommate Gini & boyfriend Mike also did a painting.

September 18, 2012 Birthdays

Kev and Alicia share the same birthday.  Usually Kev is gone hunting on his birthday, but not this year.  We went to Macayos for happy hour and I invited family & some friends to come along.  Neither one of them knew who was coming but does that really matter when margaritas and beer are involved?
A toast to their Birthday!!!

They are telling you how old they are....25 & 55 !!!
For some reason I missed getting pictures of other people that were there.  Barb & Tom, Meredith & Dave, Kim, Ashley & Lance.  Lots of margs, lots of beer, lots of chips and salsa and lots of fun!!  Happy Birthday to my two favorite people who share their birthday on September 18th!!!

Gizmo has a Friend

Gizmo is Alicia's class pet.  It's a guinea pig.  Her friend Bee has a bunny, named Bailey.   Bee had gone out of town so Alicia watched it for him.  Have you ever heard of a potty trained bunny?  It's true.  Bailey runs free around the house and goes poop in her litter box.  Isn't that the funniest thing?  I know when we had our bunny, Tiffany, she shit everywhere!!! But Bailey is housebroken.  So cute.

September 11, 2012 Kev feeding Annaliese

Kev's idea of feeding Annaliese is opening the fridge and letting her pick something out.  So she did.  She grabbed the loaf of bread and got some out.  Then sat and ate it in the comfort of the cool open refrigerator.

Labor Day Weekend 2012

Over Labor Day weekend we had some visitors.   Meredith, Dave, Michele & Rob came up to camp for the weekend.  Michele and Rob have a Rhino so they brought that up with them which made for some fun riding for everyone.
Camping of course consists of sitting around the campfire drinking and eating.  Alicia had also come up to camp and she turned us on to Banana Boats.  You slice a banana, put chocolate chunks in it, wrap it in foil and let it sit in the campfire.  Oh yummmmy!!!  Banana & melted chocolate.  Delish!!

We had a little bean bag or corn hole, (whatever you call it) tournament.  I was partners with Rob, Michele and Kev were partners and then Meredith and Dave.  It was fun and you really can score alot of points when the bags skip over the dirt and land on the board.

Here's a picture of the champions, Michele & Kev.
We did go for a hike one of the days they were all here.  We drove the truck, quads and Rhino to the trailhead that leads down to the lake.  See it way down there?  It's a little bit of a rocky trail and all down hill and you know what that means, it's all uphill when we want to go back.

You can't even see Dave with all his camo on.
When we got down to the bottom, Dave and Kev did some fishing.
Kev got the one and only catch.  In the picture it may look like a fish but it's not.  Either way, he's the only one that caught anything.

Alicia, being the good student she is, brought a book with her and sat and did homework....with a Beer!!!
Lots of fun over the weekend, looking forward to doing it again.

August 29, 2012 Janet's Awesome

Jan is applying for a huge promotion at NAU.  I was amazed at all the work that goes into just the application process.  She had been working on it for a few weeks, yes I said weeks, and a couple of days when I was there I tried to give her some help. It was like mom take your daughter to work day.  LOL  Along with all the essays and questions she has to answer, she has to submit ALL kinds of paperwork.   Now to get this all together she has to copy a ton of stuff and then make up binders with everything in them.  I can't even explain all the work that is involved and how hard she worked on it.

But the point of this story is that I did see some of her reviews from previous students and let me tell you, everyone said she was such a great teacher.  They said she really helped explain the work to make it understandable, she was easy to talk to and get assistance from, her teaching methods are great.  And on and on and on.  It was really cool to read.  It's not that I thought there would be anything bad on them but it's just so impressive to know that she is so well liked and respected on top of being  really really good at what she does.  I want to be just like her when I grow up.

Don't Bother Me

When I say that Kev and I are going or went fishing, I mean that Kev fishes and I read a book or do sudoku  or just sit and enjoy the view.  You can see how Kev will just cast his pole and then just sit and wait.
Well this one day we were at the lake I was sitting and reading and this squirrel just kept running around me.  At first he kind of scared me and I would chase him off, but then he just kept coming back.  I was like, "leave me alone, I'm reading.  Go bother Kev, he's just sitting there."  He wouldn't take a hint so I threw some peanuts out and then he went to town on them.  Evidently he knew if he kept bothering me he'd get fed.

Elk Crossing

One of the things we love to do when we are up north is to go out and spot elk.  It's usually a contest on who can spot the most and I am happy to say that there has been a time or two that I have won.  It isn't easy for me though because for whatever reason, Kev always seems to see the ones crossing the road before me.  I guess I'm always looking out my window for some while he's looking straight ahead or I'm checking out what I should take pictures of next.  Occasionally I do get some pictures of the elk before they see us and run off.

As of January 2009, I no longer have a job. It's not that I lost it, but after 26 1/2 years of working at the Post Office, I retired. According to everyone I know, I don't do anything all day, so I decided to start a blog. Now I can blog about what I don't do all day. I am married to Kevin, who is the most awesome husband I could ever have. It's because of him, that I do not go to work any more. I love that and I love him for that. Between the 2 of us we have 4 children. Hunter 31, Heather 29, Paul 28 and Alicia 26.
